about

have you come here to find out who or what the yarnmonster is?

meet Kat, a.k.a. the yarnmonster...

The Origins...

Yarnmonster was started in Fall of 2017 in Evanston, Illinois by Kat Attia, who was a full time college student at the time trying to make adorable bags out of her collection of fabrics to hold her many knitting projects.
It all began when Kat, while walking home from work, passed a small fabric store that was too cute not to enter. Not a sewer at the time, Kat began collecting small quantities of fabric prints from the store that she now frequented. Realizing that it was pointless to collect materials for a hobby she did not partake in, she began to sew.
By November of 2017, Kat had a stash of project bags so large that she knew she had to share them with other knitters. Encouraged by her friends, family, and knitting circles, Kat opened The YarnMonster Makes shop on Etsy and made project bags in her free time, when she wasn't working as a nanny or studying.
At the end of December, Kat's partner received a job offer in California and they quickly picked up their lives and moved to San Jose. In February of 2018, Kat decided she would give this her all and went full time with yarnmonster.
Today Kat works full time at yarnmonster (frequently putting in 12 hour days of sewing), and moonlights at her Local Yarn Store a couple days a week where she provides general knitty-knowledge, and occasionally teaches classes.
So where did the name yarnmonster come from?
Well, it started on Ravelry where Kat's username had always been Katieyarnmonster! And it's true that she does hoard yarn like a yarn monster would! When it came time to pick a brand name, it was only fitting. Not only was she a yarnmonster, but her customers could be too! The label on the bags could refer to more than just a brand, it could refer to a group of people who all have a common passion for fiber.
Even though Kat introduces herself as the yarnmonster, it doesn't mean she is the only one. Perhaps you are a yarnmonster too?
